BIOGRAPHY:
Peter
A. Zepponi, AIA- Principal Architect:
Peter has a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from California
Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a concentration
in adaptive re-use, renovation and historic preservation including
a year of study at the California State University International
Program in Florence, Italy. Working in the profession of architecture
since 1989 he has gained experience in very diverse project
types including: Banks, university chemistry buildings, hospital:
emergency rooms, operating rooms, patient research libraries,
ADA upgrades and analysis, National Guard buildings and hangers,
courthouses, prisons, parking structures and restaurants. In
1997 he was hired as a Project Architect with the firm responsible
for the renovation of San Francisco City Hall. Working closely
with the S.F. Department of Building Inspection he managed the
production of the Construction Documents and was an on site
architect during the construction. This work involved Mayor
Willie Brown's private offices, all of the Supervisor offices,
hearing rooms, and courthouses. A major focus of the renovation
was working closely with the Building Department and Americans
with Disabilities Act consultants to bring the historic building
into current compliance with the ADA. Following the City Hall
project Peter worked on the design of the 52 story residential
Century Tower in downtown San Francisco, as well as several
tenant improvement projects for UC Berkeley including the Berkeley
Wireless Research Center and 5th floor remodel of Cory Hall.
At the time of founding his firm he was in the process of designing
an affordable residential high rise near Polk and Eddy Streets
in San Francisco.
In 2001 he launched Peter A. Zepponi, AIA-Architects with the
new Robert Biale Winery in Napa, which was featured in San Francisco
Magazines' Small Firms Great Projects special issue.
Since then he has worked with Beringer Winery, Warm Springs
Winery, and the Ashe Family Winery. In addition to wineries
the firm has worked for U.C. Berkeley, church, school and convent
projects for the Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco, restaurant
remodels, and on numerous residential remodels, estate master
plans, and new custom residences throughout the greater Bay
Area.
Peter A. Zepponi, AIA also contributes a monthly column titled
Design Matters that is published by local San Francisco
neighborhood newsletters. The column focuses on San Francisco
specific residential design, building and planning code issues.
In the spring of 2006, three of the firm's projects are being
featured in two new architectural coffee table books being released
by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. One book will be on shingle style
homes, the other on great outdoor living spaces and rooms.
Peter was raised in Sonoma and St. Helena, California, working
since childhood at ZD winery, which his father, Gino Zepponi,
founded in 1968 in Sonoma. Besides continued work at ZD winery,
he worked with his father and brother at Domaine Chandon until
taking a position in a Napa Valley architectural firm. Following
college he worked for a brief time as a stone mason on the Flood
Building Restoration at the corner of Powell and Market, in
San Francisco, and for various architectural firms while completing
an AutoCAD certification course. After which he took a position
with a firm in Reno, Nevada, until returning to San Francisco
in 1997 to work on the San Francisco City Hall renovation.
Bruno Kanter - Project Architect:
Bruno has a Masters in Architecture from UCLA
with emphasis on Architectural Technology, Passive Solar Design
and Sustainable Architecture and Community Planning. He received
his Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State
University, San Luis Obispo with a concentration in large scale
development. He has also studied architecture at the California
State University International Program in Florence, Italy. With
over 18 years working in the profession of architecture he has
gained experience in very diverse project types including: residential,
civic centers, schools, commercial projects restaurants, police
& fire facilities, residential and urban planning - including
the Pittsburg Civic Center; Thunder Springs Resort, Ketchum,
Idaho; 201 Folsom St., SF Residential tower; Sonoma Mission
Inn.
